It was a dream debut for Neethu Shetty aka Nithyashree in Mollywood. Through the 2006-film “Photographer”, she became Mohanlal’s heroine. The film had mixed response at the box office, but Neethu’s character Sathyavathy and the song “Enthe kannanithra karuppuniram” made an impact.
Though Neethu has been away from Malayalam cinema for quite sometime, she is a close observer of the recent changes in the industry. Her comment “I am an ardent fan of Nivin Pauly and Nazria” proves it.
What is more, listen to her words: “I don’t know how often I watched film “Ohm shanthi oshana”.
Neethu is eager to do more Malayalam films. “Yes. I would like to act with Lalettan again. Working with him was something I will always cherish all my life. He has a very charming aura around him,” she says.
During their first meeting, Mohanlal greeted her saying: “Welcome to our family”. “Since he was in dual role in “Photographer”, I was lucky to see him transform into being someone else, twice!” Neethu laughs.
Neethu’s childhood passion for films blossomed when her family shifted from Mangalore to Bengaluru.
She has completed around 25 movies in Kannada and two in Tulu ( a growing film industry in Mangalore). “I am yet to work in Tamil or Telugu movies,” says Neethu, who longs to work in an Anjali Menon film.
This bubbly actress believes that film industry can hardly function to its highest potential without an equal contribution from women.
Talking about her current projects, Neethu reveals, ” I’m working in the Kannada film Industry (Sandalwood) and have a couple of releases like “Paaru I love you”, which is a love story. In the flick “Ice Spice”, I play a psychologist. I’m also working in an untitled movie.”
So what is her view regarding the trend of linking ‘bold character’ concept to actresses clad in revealing attire? “I never judge anyone by the way he/she chooses to dress. So I cannot really comment on how people judge the glamorous ones. There is no outfit in this world, which has ever been created that can define any person’s real character,” Neethu explains.
Her father Manjunath Shetty, who had an agricultural background, passed away in 2011. Her mother Mohini is an employee of Syndicate Bank. She has a younger sister Preethi, who is studying abroad.

Neethu’s hopes are high for doing a Malayalam movie soon. Interestingly, her favourite directors in the industry are Anjali Menon, Alphonse Putheran , Abrid Shine, Jude Anthony Joseph…and the list continues!
