Veteran Tamil Filmmaker J Mahendran Passed Away

Veteran Tamil filmmaker, J Mahendran passed away earlier today at the age of 79. His son, John Mahendran, who also happens to be a filmmaker, took to his Twitter account to reveal the news about his father’s passing away.

According to a report in NewsMinute, a public homage is set to be held for the deceased filmmaker from 10am today while his last rites will be performed at 5 in the evening.

The director had appeared on the big screen, in Rajinikanth’s Petta and was also one of the cast members of the black comedy thriller Boomerang, which released earlier this month and starred Atharvaa Murali in the lead.

Born in 1939, J Mahendran began his career as a script and dialogue writer. In fact, his story and dialogues of the iconic film Aadu Puli Attam is very popular even today. Same goes for his debut directorial venture titled Mullum Malarum. Since then, the director delivered several popular movies in Tamil cinema, including Uthiripookkal and Nenjathai Killadhe, among others.

His debut film, Mullum Malarum starred Rajinikanth and Sarath Babu, Fatafat Jayalaxmi and Shoba, in 1978. It is said that the film was the biggest turning point in Rajinikanth’s career which made him a superstar
