Shahi Paneer (Cottage Cheese)


Shahi Paneer is a delicious vegetarian preparation of paneer (Cottage Cheese) in a thick gravy made up of cream, tomatoes and spices from the Indian subcontinent. This dish can be served with bread, Naan or steamed rice.


  • 1- onion
  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • Ginger, chopped
  • Tomatoes- 2 nos.
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp –vegetable masala
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 15 Paneer Cubes
  • 2 Butter cubes
  • 6 nos- Cashew nuts


To prepare the thick gravy stir fry  chopped onion, garlic, tomatoes, ginger and cashew nuts in butter. Keep it for cooling. Then mix it well  in a blender. Next, put a pan on medium flame and heat 3 tablespoons of butter  in it. Add the chilli powder, coriander powder and vegetable masala to it. Pour the mixed puree into the pan and mix well. Cook for a minute till the gravy turns thick and add the paneer cubes to it.. Cook for another 3 to 5 minutes. Add the butter cubes to it. It’s your choice to  add some fresh cream to make this dish more creamy. This will add to the taste.  Serve hot with bread, Naan, or steamed rice.
