I have finished first reading of this Cult Classic. It is an amazing experience to go through a book which was published in the year 2026 without feeling any incongruous time or generational gap in the plot of narrations.
Primarily, one would feel something in the mystic, sparkling eyes of Paramhans Yoganand ji, author of this book, on the cover which tends you to pursue the book from first page to last page (Totally 508 pages). It’s like exploring the world, astral & physical from the eyes of a Yogi.
First thing which I percive from this autobiography is that “You do not choose a life rather a life do choses you.”
Secondly, this book will place you in the contrast with the beliefs, concepts and narrative which used to be fuelled in our mind in our educational system. But there is something in the Book which will fill you with spritual ambrosia and tend you to think about imperceptible.
Yogi has tried to explain the science behind Kriya Yog. Those who are fond of scientific explanation of each activities may directly pursue Chapter Number 30 of this book “The Law of Miracles”. He explain the law of Maya through principles of relativity and duality. “Newton’s Law of Motion is a law of Maya: To every action there is always an equal and contrary reaction; the mutual actions of any two bodies are always equal and oppositely directed.” As per Yogi,” To surmount maya was the task assigned to the human race by the millennial prophets. To rise above the duality of creation and perceive the unity of the Creator was conceived of as man’s highest goal.”
In the Chapter 26 “The Science of Kriya Yog” he explained Kriya Yog as union (yoga) with the Infinite through a certain action or rite. He claims that a Yogi who faithfully follows it’s technique is gradually freed from karma or the universal chain of causation.
Scientific explanation of Kriya yog has also been provided as “psychophysiological method by which the human blood is Decarbonized and recharge with oxygen. The atoms of this extra oxygen are transmitted into life current to rejuvenate the brain and spinal centres. By stopping the accumulation of venous blood, the Yogi is able to lessen or prevent the decay of tissues; the advanced Yogi transmutes his cells into pure energy”. He suggests that Elijah, Jesus, Kabir and other prophets were past masters in the use of Kriya or a similar technique, by which they caused their bodies to dematerialize at will. He explained the Yogic Sciences behind the Kriya.
He used to keep you in the mystic world of Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahashay, Sri Yukteswar and many more saints. Life of Lahiri Mahashay and Sri Yukteswar is solace to those who have already been inducted in Societal framework and having family responsibilities. They achieved Cosmic Consciousness while discharging their social-family responsibility.
In this book, narrations flow from Upanishad, Bhagwat Gita, Patanjali Yog Sutra and goes upto New Testament, Zend Avesta & Bible.
Since many years I have one perception in my mind that if the proclamation of God in Bhagavad Gita; i.e. ” यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत । अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम् ॥” is true then why Jesus Christ could not be considered as Avtar!! When I gone through the proclamation of Mahavatar Babaji as “Yogi Christ” by Paramhans Yoganand then it cemented my perception.
He advocated to unite the Occidental and Oriental thinking process through Spiritual awakening. He advocated for concept of world citizen. He suggested that man must enlarge his allegiance considering himself in the light of World Citizen. A person who truly feels that the world is his homeland; it is his America, his India, his Philippines, his England, his Africa. In this way, man’s natural local pride will know limitless expansion; he will be in touch with creative universal currents. He proclaimed scientific technique of self realization as key for overcoming all human misery.
While considering the Characteristic and nature of God and while going through the book of Bhagat Singh “Why I am an atheist”, a question do arise in mind that “Why God has created so many misery and pain in life of human in this World????” Answer of this question has been suggested by a woman Yogi to Paramhans Yoganand. She was blessed with the technique which entitled her to get energy from the sunlight and air directly and she never eats in her life. In Chapter 46 “The Woman Yogi Who Never Eats” narrated his discussion with said yogini. Yogi asked, “Mother, why don’t you teach others the method of living without food?” Her reply satisfied all my queries. She Answered that “She was strictly commanded by har Guru not to divulge athe secret. It is not his Guru’s wish to temper with God’s drama of creation. The farmers would not thank her if she taught many people to live without eating! The luscious fruits would lie uselessly on the ground. It appears that misery, starvation and disease are whips of our Karma which ultimately drive us to seek the true meaning of life”.
On one hand it gives a pleasure to complete a cult Classic. But on the other hand, there is sense of remorse for leaving a virtual world filled with Spritual Awakening Stories, Astral concepts of Mind, Body & Soul, Glimpse of Cosmic Consciousness, Self Realization and Kriya Yog.I wish to end with couplets of song written by Yogi:”Darkness, death and failures vied;To block my path they fiercely tried; My fight with jealous Nature’s strong—But still my soul is marching on!”
