Chakli is a deep fried savoury snack made from Rice flour, gram flour or a mixture of lentil flours. They are also known as “murukku” in the south but just as every state has its own version, the maharashtrian version is a bit spicy and it is eaten mostly during the festival of Diwali.
Ingredients: For 15 nos
- Rice Flour – 1 cup full
- Gram Flour -1 cup full
- Sesame Seeds- 3 Table Spoons
- Red Chilli Powder – 2 Table Spoon
- Turmeric Powder 1/4th Teaspoon
- Asafoetida – ½ Teaspoon
- Cumin Seeds- 1 Tea spoon
- Carom Seeds -1/2 Tea spoon
- Salt to Taste
- Oil – 3 Table Spoons Plus more for Frying
- Yoghurt – Half cup
Step by step instructions
- In a bowl mix the rice flour and the gram flour with sesame seeds, red chilli powder, turmeric, asafoetida, cumin seeds, carom seeds, salt
- To this mixture add the 3 table spoon oil and mix it well again
- Now add the yogurt and little hot water and knead until you get a smooth and hard dough like consistency.
- Keep the mixture aside for 15 mins covered
- Make small round balls so that the fit into the moulds well
- in a chakli maker fill the dough press it to get a spiral shape on a silver foil Fry them one by one in hot oil until crisp
